SketchcrawlMo November 22, 2009

I was lucky enough to participate in the Worldwide Sketchcrawl (like a pubcrawl, but with more more hand/eye coordination) this Saturday. The NYC group met in front of the Chelsea Wine Vault at the Chelsea Market at 11 a.m. and, minus a break for lunch at 3 p.m., the last of us drew until 6:30 p.m. We spent the early afternoon on the High Line, then did post-lunch sketching at Chelsea Market (there was string quartet playing and great people watching), and ended the day with a walk to Times Square—stopping on the way to sketch a taco truck on 29th Street.

This represents both what I did and how I felt today. The constant rain provided no comfort. Looking for something to cheer me up I came across Mark Bittman’s video for Sweet Potatoes with Prosciutto.

Others have drawn such terrific and varied leaves here, I was inspired to try and draw one too. Plus I liked the pretty colors and how they blend.

been busy as trying to set up an ebay shop, so while I’ve done my drawings I haven’t made time to post them (tsk tsk). They’re all on flickr, but I’ll just post a couple that I don’t hate here.

Medicine November 18, 2007

I’ve caught a cold, probably from those germy tango people, so I made a hot toddy: cognac, honey, lemon juice, hot water, a cinnamon stick, and three cloves.

Because I felt like a wet rag today, I went outside only to get chicken soup and more tissues. Sitting in the cold to draw did not seem like a good idea. This, therefore, is the first day of DrawMo! 2007 that I drew inside my apartment. So I tried to make it up to the world by making the process really, really tedious, using the very thin pens that I don’t have in brown. It’s hard to draw cognac, gold leaf, and wood without a brown pen.

It took me so long to draw this that by the time I was done and could pick up the glass, my drink was cold. I reheated it (in a different glass—can’t microwave gold leaf) in the microwave.
