For those who wish to draw more

SketchcrawlMo November 22, 2009

I was lucky enough to participate in the Worldwide Sketchcrawl (like a pubcrawl, but with more more hand/eye coordination) this Saturday. The NYC group met in front of the Chelsea Wine Vault at the Chelsea Market at 11 a.m. and, minus a break for lunch at 3 p.m., the last of us drew until 6:30 p.m. We spent the early afternoon on the High Line, then did post-lunch sketching at Chelsea Market (there was string quartet playing and great people watching), and ended the day with a walk to Times Square—stopping on the way to sketch a taco truck on 29th Street.

You can see other New Yorkers’ sketches and photos over at the Sketchcrawl boards. My drawings and links to fellow Sketchcrawlers’ blogs are after the jump…

leapin' circles

Focused on the finishing up some Greek-themed fabric pieces I’m working. Μὴ μοῦ τοὺς κύκλους τάραττε. (Supposedly Archimedes said “Do not disturb my circles.” to a Roman soldier.) I managed to make that something about hair when really I was thinking about my own “circles” in my head. I do find that as I struggle to find inspiration I often doubt (at least certain aspect of) my sanity. Then I recalled the inspirational Zen saying: Leap and the net will appear and ran off to find the Greek for “leap” – πηδώ.

been busy as trying to set up an ebay shop, so while I’ve done my drawings I haven’t made time to post them (tsk tsk). They’re all on flickr, but I’ll just post a couple that I don’t hate here.

Cattani Foot

Perhaps I should have titled them “toes.” I don’t have access to a real skeleton so I borrowed from a picture of a 1780 engraving by Antonio Cattani that a found in Sara Simblet’s Anatomy for the Artist. I am, by the way, absolutely in love with the book. The John Davis’ photography of male and female models is superb. I hoping to use the book to learn how to draw the body… (and continuing to gush) it’s a wonderful reference!
