Hi, I’m Mary. And I’m gonna make a drawing a day with y’all. I work really hard at a 10-6 job (that’s Soho equivalent for 9-5) and I am trying desperately to not go insane while completing my own large scale project in off hours. I hope that daily drawing will be a centering practice for my pretty hectic and overwhelming schedule. You may not see me temporarily- that will mean that i’m either tearing my hair out, or digging myself a hole to crawl in and hide. Nice to meet you.
Two Chicks November 26, 2007
This one’s probably my favorite of the month thusfar. These chicks were lying out on the counter at the lake house Saturday night before our big barbecue. If you’d like a shot at this free postcard, comment at the blog and email a delivery address like it says here.

We took the grandkids to the science museum in town. While they ran around I sketched some of the stuffed animals. This drawing is of a thrush on its nest.

Now that it’s cold enough for the bears to be in hibernation, the bird feeder is up again and the traffic is heavy–mostly black-capped chickadees. Drawing them was frustrating. They only light for a millisecond and repeat the exact poses infrequently. So after sitting patiently long enough to draw the two main birds I grabbed the camera and got a couple of shots for the others. It’s a good practice for memory drawing, though. The bag on the feeder has tiny thistle seeds for the goldfinches.

A very quick one today, just a little bird flying past, in black pen, with a bit of bucket fill via Open Canvas.
