Let’s just pretend that my drawing today looks like this one, instead.
This is not terrible! It’s delightful.
Drawing in class isn’t easy. I think you did well. I usually just end up with the back of a lot of heads.
It would have come out a lot better, had I been drawing just the backs of people’s heads.
I think you’re too hard on yourself. Your drawing has many interesting qualities — the differences in scale for instance between figures, some being large and others not. The way that some figures are whole and others are seen only in part (the cut off figure at top is particularly intriguing).
The overall airyness of the drawing caused by the abundance of white is very pleasing — produces — as Matisse liked to say — a light from within the picture.
I always find that it’s best simply to just draw and to leave editorializing about the drawing’s qualities for much later — when the memory of the subject has faded and the drawing can stand on its own merits without comparison to the subject.
Each of your four people is very enigmatic.
