I lost my password for a while and couldn’t post. But I did draw in the meantime.

Green fairy (absinthe)

Day 4: The Green Fairy. I have an oversized print of a Leonetto Cappiello poster featuring this sexy fellow. I hope someday to buy one of the original posters.

Powerbook

Day 5: My Powerbook, during a break from frantic noveling for NaNoWriMo. The lead character is currently in Esatern Europe, being served a glass of original (pre-banning) absinthe — supposedly old bottles are sometimes found sealed up in walls of buildings. They’re prized not just for their age but because among their ingredients is wormwood, which was since been banned because of hallucinogenic properties. So the DrawMo drawings and the NaNoWriMo story intertwine as promised!

Sammy is not still

Day 6: Sammy is not still. Reminded by Christopher of James Thurber’s drawings of dogs and other animals, I decided to draw my cat Samantha. (That means I have to work a cat into the NaNoWriMo novel too, but oh well.) Sammy couldn’t get the hang of sitting still, so each time she moved I started a new sketch on top of the previous one. Eventually she did settle down, but by then I’d pretty much filled up the space.

I like the fairy and Sammy, but there’s a problem with your PowerBook: the sleep light’s not pulsing on and off.

Yes, I haven’t yet figured out how to make pencil marks pulse. These drawing tools are so confusing.

  3. markdm Says:

The fact that your sketchbook pages are translucent makes for some interesting effects. The drawing underneath acts as a sort of underpainting. Nice.

Mark — thanks! I hadn’t really noticed, because I’m all focused on whether the drawings come through. The paper seems really opaque in person, but the scanner light must be strong.

  5. Dani Says:

Love the cat. You really captured it’s feline movements!

  6. […] Brilliant Mistakes, so here I’ll only add that I think this makes a nice counterpoint to the drawing of Sammy that I made for DrawMo last year. […]
